Storm warnings

Northeasterly winds will reach storm force 10 in the northwest of West Northern Section throughout, and at first in the southwest of the Denmark Strait and later elsewhere. Low 55 north 38 west 957 losing its identity. Winds will reach storm force 10 in the southern semi circle between 120 and 500 miles from the centre of the low throughout and in the southeast quadrant between 150 and 300 mile from the centre, after 110600UTC. Winds also occasionally increase violent storm force 11 in the southern quadrant between 180 and 300 miles from the centre, until 110700UTC. At 101200UTC, low 48 north 28 west 984 expected 62 north 27 west 936 by 111200UTC. Southerly winds will reach storm force 10 until 110100UTC, within 180 miles ahead of the cold front. winds will also reach storm force in East Northern Section from 110100UTC. and finally, winds will occasionally increase violent storm force 11 in the southeast quadrant within 100 miles of the centre after 110600UTC, and then in the eastern semi circle within 100 miles of the centre from 110900UTC to 111500UTC.

Southeast Iceland

Easterly or northeasterly becoming cyclonic 6 to gale 8, occasionally severe gale 9 for a time in northwest. Very rough, occasionally high at first, and later in west. Rain. Moderate or poor.

East Northern Section

Cyclonic 7 to severe gale 9, but 4 to 6 at first in south, increasing gale 8 to storm 10, occasionally violent storm 11 for time later in northwest. Very rough or high, becoming high or very high. Occasional rain or squally showers, wintry at times. Moderate or poor.

West Northern Section

In northwest

Northeasterly gale 8 to storm 10 perhaps violent storm 11 later, elsewhere cyclonic 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 in south, increasing 7 to severe gale 9, occasionally storm 10 later in east. High or very high. Rain at times or wintry showers, but sleet or snow in far northwest. Moderate or poor, occasionally very poor in far northwest.

East Central Section

Cyclonic gale 8 to storm 10, becoming mainly westerly or southwesterly 7 to severe gale 9, occasionally storm 10 in northwest and 6 later in southeast. High or very high, occasionally very rough at first in north and southeast. Fair at first in southeast, otherwise rain, then thundery squally showers. Moderate or poor, occasionally good later in south.

West Central Section

Cyclonic, mainly westerly or southwesterly, gale 8 to storm 10, occasionally violent storm 11 between 50 north and 53 north until later, decreasing 6 to gale 8 later in south. High or very high, occasionally phenomenal for a time in central areas. Thundery rain at first in north and later in southwest, otherwise squally wintry showers. Poor or very poor, occasionally moderate later.

Denmark Strait

Northeasterly 7 to severe gale 9, occasionally storm 10 at first in southwest and later elsewhere. Very rough or high, occasionally very high in southwest. Occasional snow or freezing rain. Moderate to very poor. Light or moderate icing expected within 100 miles of the ice edge with temperatures of ms03 to ms05, but severe at times in north with temperatures ms06 to ms08.

North Iceland

In north

Easterly or northeasterly 4 to 6, becoming variable 3 or 4 at times in north. Moderate or rough. Occasional snow or freezing rain in southwest, otherwise fair. Good, occasionally poor in north and west. Light or moderate icing expected in far southwest close to the ice edge with temperatures of ms03 to ms06.

In south

Easterly or northeasterly 6 to gale 8, occasionally severe gale 9 at first in southeast, backing southeasterly 4 to 6 later in far southeast. Rough or very rough, but high at first in southeast. Rain at times, fog patches at times in south. Moderate or good, occasionally poor, and very poor at times in south. Light or moderate icing expected in far west close to the ice edge with temperatures of ms03 to ms06.

Norwegian Basin

Cyclonic 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 until later, decreasing 4 to 6 later. Very rough or high, occasionally rough in east, becoming rough or very rough later. Occasional rain, fog patches later in west. Moderate or good, occasionally poor, but very poor at times later in west.

Outlook for following 24 hours

A risk of violent storms in the Denmark Strait with storms expected in East Northern Section, West Northern Section, East Central Section and East Central Section. Severe gales are expected in Rockall, Bailey and Southeast Iceland with gales expected all other areas except in Norwegian Basin.
