A strong westerly or southwesterly flow will affect the coastal waters during the next couple of days, with rain or showers and a risk of gales at times in the north.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong wind warning

24 hour forecast: Westerly or southwesterly 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 at first in north, backing southerly 4 to 6 later. To the west and north of Orkney, rough or very rough, becoming moderate or rough later, elsewhere slight or moderate, but occasionally rough at first to the east of Orkney. Showers, squally at first, then rain later. Moderate or good, occasionally poor at first in north.

Outlook for the following 24 hours: Southerly 4 to 6 veering southwesterly 5 to 7, occasionally gale 8 later in north. To the west and north of Orkney, moderate or rough, becoming rough or very rough later, but elsewhere slight or moderate. Rain then squally showers. Good, occasionally moderate.

Channel Islands
