General situation

A cold front and associated outbreaks of rain will move southeastwards across Scotland during Tuesday, becoming slow-moving across southern Scotland and Northern Ireland on Tuesday night. Then further Atlantic fronts will move eastwards across Wales and England during Wednesday, bringing outbreaks of rain and strong winds to most areas.

Cape Wrath to Rattray Head including Orkney - Strong wind warning

24 hour forecast: South or southwest veering west, 4 to 6, then veering northwest 3 to 5 later. Mainly slight or moderate, but smooth or slight in Moray Firth and becoming rough later near northwestern Orkney. Rain then showers, squally at first. Good, occasionally poor at first and moderate later.

Outlook for the following 24 hours: Northwest becoming variable 2 to 4, then becoming east 3 to 5, becoming cyclonic 4 or 5 later. Smooth or slight in Moray Firth and moderate or rough to the west and north of Orkney, but elsewhere slight or moderate. Showers then fair, then rain later. Good, occasionally poor later.


Rattray Head to Berwick upon Tweed - Strong wind warning

24 hour forecast: South or southwest 4 to 6 veering west or southwest 3 to 5, then northwest 2 to 4 later. Mainly slight or moderate, but smooth or slight in Firth of Forth, and later also elsewhere. Rain or showers, perhaps thundery for a time. Good, occasionally poor for a time.

Outlook for the following 24 hours: Northwest veering east or southeast, 2 to 4, then veering southwest 4 or 5 later. Smooth or slight, occasionally moderate near Rattray Head. Fair at first in north, otherwise occasional rain. Good, occasionally moderate.
