It will remain rather cloudy this evening and overnight. Winds strengthening, especially over hills and near the coasts, but remaining dry for most. Fog on hills. There may be the occasional clear spell, allowing for patchy frost to form. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Sunday:

Mostly cloudy and breezy on Sunday. Perhaps becoming brighter in the east later. Remaining rather cloudy with some patchy light rain or drizzle over western hills. Winds easing later. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Largely dry, bright and increasingly windy on Monday. Some patchy rain on hills. Cloudy with rain and strong winds on Tuesday. Largely dry and sunny on Wednesday. Temperatures near average.

It is likely to be rather more settled across the UK in this period, especially at first. High pressure will sit close to, or over the UK, and will most likely drift away slowly eastwards with time. Consequently, southern and eastern areas are likely to see the driest conditions, with lightest winds, which could lead to overnight frost and fog with temperatures a little below normal. Further north and west, there is a risk of incursions of Atlantic air and fontal systems at times, which would bring some rain here, but with milder temperatures. There is a very low chance that if the high orientates in such a way that a more easterly (rather than southerly/southeasterly) flow develops, a spell of much colder conditions could develop across the UK.

It is most likely that high pressure will dominate at first in some form or another, but there is a weak signal for a more unsettled spell in the second half of the month, before signals become indistinguishable from climatology by the start of March. Temperatures may be below average at first, with overnight frosts, but could return to near average or even rise a little above average later. Rainfall amounts, especially in the south and east are likely to be below average at first, but may return to near-normal values later in the month.
