Dry for much of the night, with clear spells giving fog and frost patches, especially in the east. Cloud thickening later in the west, with chance of some showers affecting the Pennines by dawn. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Thursday:

A frosty start with patchy fog clearing. Thickening cloud spreading eastwards with rain, heavy at times, and hill snow following in afternoon. Drier by evening. Becoming windy. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Storm Éowyn will bring stormy conditions, heavy rain and hill snow on Friday. Winds easing Saturday, sunny spells, wintry showers later. Further strong winds and sleet likely later on Sunday.

This looks like being and unsettled period across much of the country, but especially for northern and western parts. During Monday, another deep area of low pressure looks likely to move across the UK from the Atlantic, bringing wet and windy conditions to most if not all parts. Further spells of wet and windy weather look like moving east from the Atlantic to affect the UK during the rest of the period too, with drier, brighter spells in between. There is the potential for further weather warnings or even a named storm at some point. Temperatures overall are likely to end up being around or slightly above average, though wind and rain will make it feel chilly, and brief cool spells with some overnight frost are likely between weather systems.

Generally mild at first, with periods of rain, showers and strong winds alternating with short-lived brighter and cooler interludes. These may become increasingly confined to northern parts during this period though, with pressure possibly building across southern areas in particular. This would result in longer drier and more-settled spells here, albeit with an increased chance of overnight fog and frost and temperatures falling a little correspondingly.
