Dry, warm and rather sunny across southern areas but cloudier further north, with the odd chance of a heavy shower in the afternoon, briefly accompanied by strong winds. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Fine and sunny on Thursday after a chilly start. Cloud increasing on Friday with patchy rain arriving overnight. Largely dry Saturday but possibly remaining cloudy throughout.

A continuation of changeable weather is expected, as further frontal systems bring spells of rain, showers, and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions are most likely across Scotland and Northern Ireland, but wet and windy weather may extend more widely across England and Wales at times. Between these unsettled spells, periods of drier and more settled weather are likely, especially further south and east, and may last for several days at a time. Temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal overall, but overnight fog and frost is possible during clearer, cooler nights.

The changeable and unsettled weather is likely to continue, with wet and windy weather even perhaps become more frequent. As is often the case for October, deeper areas of low pressure may also bring periods of very strong winds, especially across north and west. There is no reliable signal for any long-lasting settled weather, but fair days are likely between weather systems, especially in the south and east. Temperatures are expected to remain generally above average overall, although cooler interludes are possible.
