Colder air is pushing south across the UK, bringing a brief settled spell for Saturday before further rain and wintry hazards arrive later.

Cloudy, isolated wintry showers south, soon becoming drier and brighter.

Today:

The morning will begin cloudy with a few wintry showers in the south. These showers will clear south as sunny spells begin to spread south from mid-morning. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Tonight:

The night will continue dry, cloudy with the occasional shower north at first. Increasing clear spells and a light wind will lead to a sharp frost towards the morning. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

Saturday:

The day will begin cold with a sharp frost and sunny spells, continuing dry as high cloud spreads east during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Early snow Sunday then outbreaks of rain in the afternoon. Showery rain north for a time Monday becoming dry with bright or sunny spells Tuesday.

Some heavy rain is likely in places, with some snow at times in the north, mainly on high ground. Temperatures varying from around average to cold at times, especially in the north. While unsettled weather is likely to dominate, there will be some drier interludes between weather systems. Later in the period, there is a chance that more prolonged drier and settled conditions may begin to develop.
