Today:

The odd shower is possible over northern Argyll at first, but otherwise it will be a dry day with variable cloud and long sunny spells developing. Light winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

A dry and settled night with mostly cloudy skies, though some clear intervals are possible. Winds strengthening around coastal areas of Argyll, but lighter winds inland where a little chilly. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Tuesday:

A dry and mostly cloudy morning with some brightness. Cloud lowering and becoming thicker in the afternoon with some light rain possible. Winds strengthening, with coastal gales possible in west. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Cloudy Wednesday with strong winds and heavy rain spreading east, dry and clear later. Mostly dry with sunny spells Thursday and winds easing. Cloudy Friday with rain spreading east.

Initially, some outbreaks of rain may affect the UK, especially the north and west. These changeable conditions will probably give way to higher pressure and a more settled period of weather through the early part of the period. The speed at which high pressure builds, and whether it will be focussed across the north or south, remains finely balanced. This will lead to a drier than average period overall, with lighter winds than average. Some interludes of more unsettled weather and stronger winds are likely at times, but there are mixed signals as to where these are more probable. Temperatures are likely to remain warmer than average.

High pressure and more settled conditions early in the period may give way to a more changeable pattern towards mid-October. This will bring a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times, but there will still be periods of drier and more settled weather. Temperatures are likely be above average for the period as a whole.
