Wet and windy with outbreaks of heavier rain through much of the day, pushing away during the afternoon to leave some evening bright spells. Strong winds reaching gale at coasts, then starting to ease during the afternoon. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Clear spells give way to an organised band of heavy showers pushing in from the west overnight. These mostly clear by dawn with winds falling light. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

A dry day with sunny spells for most. Rain associated with Storm Austen pushes into the south later. Mostly light winds, turning gusty with the storm in the far southwest. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Storm Austen continues affecting the region for most of Friday, clearing to scattered showers by evening. Further rain and wind likely Saturday ahead of a drier interlude on Sunday.

Changeable and at times unsettled, with weather systems spreading in from the Atlantic. These will bring spells of rain, heavy at times, together with a risk of strong winds or gales. Between systems it will be drier and brighter with some sunshine, but also with a few showers in places. Further into the period there is a chance that the weather patterns could become more slowly evolving for a time. This may lead to more in the way of settled weather, especially in the east, but this is uncertain. Temperatures may be slightly below normal at first, but are likely to rise above average later.
