Mostly fine at first. Wet and windy later this week.

Today:

It will be rather cloudy at times in the west with some hill fog and patchy drizzle. Elsewhere, any early morning fog patches will lift to leave a mostly dry day with some bright spells. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

The north and west coast could see some drizzle overnight, but for most it looks dry albeit quite cloudy. Where breaks develop it could turn chilly with local fog patches. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Wednesday:

The northwest to southeast split will continue on Wednesday, with areas of cloud giving patchy drizzle in the north and west. Brighter though further south and east. Generally becoming breezy. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Thursday will be mostly dry, though rather cloudy and breezy. Wet and windy overnight, then unsettled on Friday and Saturday with rain at times, and potentially some very strong winds.

This period could begin with some very disturbed weather for the British Isles, with a deep low probably passing to the north or northwest of the country. This means there is potential for very strong winds and some further heavy rain, especially, but exclusively for more northern areas. Into the following week, a broadly westerly type looks most likely, with further weather systems running in from the Atlantic. On balance, southern areas stand a better chance of seeing longer drier interludes. However, confidence in the details remains on the low side, owing to ongoing Atlantic tropical cyclone activity. Overall, temperatures probably fairly close to average by day and whilst some overnight frost cannot be ruled out, especially later in the period, nothing overly cold is signalled at this stage.

A continuation of the broad patterns from the end of the 6-15 day forecast is anticipated at first, with the more unsettled conditions focussed towards northern areas and the best of the drier interludes further south, bringing the potential for some overnight frost and fog here. With time, there is a signal for more widely unsettled weather to develop, with more frequent bouts of wet and windy weather affecting a greater portion of the UK. Given the likelihood of westerly winds predominating, temperatures should average out a little above the seasonal norm, with overnight temperatures more often relatively mild, and with a reduced incidence of overnight fog, compared to normal.
