Often cloudy this week but perhaps some sunshine in places.

Today:

It will be a similar day to that on Tuesday with cloudy skies continuing for most of us. Western areas will be brighter at times with some sunny spells possible. Generally feeling rather cool, but pleasant in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

A mostly cloudy and rather mild night will then follow. Some cloud breaks are possible in the west, where some patchy fog may form and it will turn chilly. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Thursday:

Little change in the weather pattern on Thursday. Remaining rather cloudy, dry with light winds. Some brightness, mainly in the west, with temperatures near the seasonal norm. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Remaining settled, mostly cloudy and dry at first with some brighter spells and overnight fog. A change on Sunday as rain and brisker winds arrive from the west.

A transition to more unsettled conditions than of late is expected at the start of this period, as low pressure from the Atlantic moves gradually eastwards across the UK. This will bring an increasing chance of rain or showers fairly widely, perhaps accompanied by some strong winds at times. It is likely to remain fairly changeable as further pulses of rain or showers affect parts of the UK through much of this period, but interspersed with some drier and brighter interludes. Towards the following weekend, and final week of October, high pressure may build to the west of the UK, and with low pressure to the east this may lead to a cooler and slightly drier northwesterly flow with a few showers.

It is likely to be changeable at first, with a showery northwesterly regime most favoured across the UK. Into November, an unsettled pattern is anticipated, as low pressure systems over the Atlantic track across the UK. These may be shifted farther south than normal, bringing showers or longer spells of rain fairly widely, perhaps also accompanied by some strong winds at times. Temperatures will probably be close to or slightly above average overall.
