This Evening and Tonight:

Further wintry showers overnight, mainly in the west, leading to the risk of icy conditions for some. Snow accumulating in some places, particularly in Eryri and Mynydd Preseli. Becoming widely frosty with a severe frost in some inland spots. Minimum temperature -7 °C.

Sunday:

Sunny spells and wintry showers, these mainly in western areas at first but perhaps developing more widely later, falling as snow inland. Cold with frost and ice lingering in places. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Cold on Monday with sunny periods and wintry showers near western coasts. Turning somewhat less cold thereafter with occasional rain or snow. Severe overnight frosts at first with ice possible.

Rather changeable, as Atlantic frontal systems attempt to cross the UK from the west to bring occasional outbreaks of rain, but preceded by snow in some areas, more especially central, northern and eastern parts of the UK, perhaps giving some significant snow accumulations in places, particularly on northern hills. These low pressure systems, whilst could bring some periods of strong winds, will be interspersed with quieter, drier interludes under transient ridges of high pressure with the potential for frost, and wintry showers along coasts exposed to northerly winds. A continuation of this general pattern is favoured into the following week, although perhaps with temperatures trending closer to average such that the frequency of wintry hazards, especially in the south, may reduce slightly.

The outlook through the second half of January is very uncertain, with no strong indication for any particular weather pattern to dominate. As such, conditions are most likely to be changeable. Spells of wet, windy and mild weather are possible at times, along with colder, drier interludes with overnight frost and fog. Snow and ice remain possible, especially in central and northern parts of the UK, but the chance of these is lower than earlier in the month.
