Headline:

Rain clearing but turning windier through Thursday.

Today:

Rain at times in the south during the morning which may be heavy at times. This rain clears eastwards with brighter and drier spells developing through the day. Isolated showers in the west. Cooler than Tuesday, but not as breezy. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

Tonight:

Showers in the west will ease overnight leaving some patchy cloud but a mostly dry night. Where skies clear, temperatures will fall away allowing for patchy frost to form. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

A settled start to Thursday but winds strengthen form the southwest through the morning with the possibility of coastal gales into the afternoon. Turning cloudier with outbreaks of rain later. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

The wet and windy theme continues for Friday and into the weekend, although it will start to feel milder. Turning more settled on Sunday with the return of sunny spells.

The changeable and at times unsettled weather is likely to continue through early November, with low pressure dominating the UK. This means further showers or longer spells of rain at times. All parts could see some heavy rain, but it is likely that western areas will be wettest. Strong winds are likely at times, with gales or severe gales a possibility, especially in the west. Equally there should also be some, at least brief, drier or clearer interludes, these more prevalent further east, but perhaps becoming a little more widespread and long-lasting by the end of the period. With winds predominantly blowing from a westerly or southwesterly quadrant, above average temperatures are most likely, with a reduced incidence of overnight frost and fog, compared to normal, especially at first.

A gradual transition from an unsettled westerly type to something less unsettled is anticipated through the middle part of the month. With time, greater incidences of high pressure look set to affect the UK, bringing more in the way of dry weather, but also increasing the chances of overnight fog and frost. Later in the month any low pressure systems will likely be steered to the northwest of the UK. As such the majority of any wet and windy weather is more likely to affect areas further to the north. Overall, temperatures look to pan out near to a little above average.
