Mainly dry this evening and overnight but occasional light showers are possible, these mostly in the west. Turning locally misty under any prolonged clear intervals further east. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Tuesday:

Cloudier than today, though occasional sunny intervals are possible. Feeling a little cooler however with a slightly breezier southwesterly wind developing. Rain arriving in the northwest later. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Brighter with sunny spells on Wednesday once any early rain and drizzle clears southern areas. Thereafter a mainly dry remainder to the week albeit often cloudy.

High pressure is expected to dominate for most if not all of the rest of the period, bringing plenty of dry, settled weather. Cloud amounts will be variable, and some overnight fog is likely, this slowly clearing through the morning. Frontal systems rounding the high may push some cloud and rain into the extreme north of the country at times along with some stronger winds, Orkney and Shetland most likely to see this, but here too the emphasis is on a good deal of dry and settled weather. Temperatures will be near average overall, but with some chilly nights possible, perhaps with isolated frost. Equally in any cloud breaks and light winds it will feel pleasantly warm by day.

The final third of October will likely see a transition to more unsettled conditions across the UK, with high pressure relinquishing its grip, though the timing and manner of this is uncertain. Whether this takes the form of successive depressions moving in from the Atlantic or a rather slower-evolving weather pattern remains to be seen, but there is a greater chance of most if not all places seeing spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds later in the month, these conditions continuing into the start of November. Temperatures will probably be close to average overall.
