Cloudy throughout, with hill fog. A spell of light rain will move north, with sleet and snow over higher ground in the west, although some sleet/snow possible at lower elevations for a short time. The easterly breeze gradually easing. Cold. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Saturday:

Cloudy to start with hill fog and spells of light rain or drizzle moving north. Drier and brighter spells through the afternoon. Winds falling light, but still feeling cold. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Cold and mostly cloudy through this period, with rain or showers at times, these sometimes wintry especially on higher ground. Occasionally windy, accentuating the cold feel.

High pressure is expected to be slow moving and centred to the northeast of the UK at the start of this period. As a result, east or southeasterly winds will dominate, these bringing below-normal temperatures across the UK from mainland Europe. Some rain and hill snow is likely at times, particularly across the east of the UK, with the best of any sunny periods probably in the west. It will be breezy around coasts, but the risk of any very strong winds is low. During the second half of this period, a change to milder and more unsettled conditions will probably begin to occur. Exactly how this manifests is uncertain, but there will be an increasing chance of rain and strong winds spreading from the Atlantic across the UK.

A mobile pattern, will probably have become established by this time, with weather systems moving close to or across the UK from the Atlantic. This will mean bands of rain and perhaps periods of strong winds spreading in from the west, interspersed with some drier and brighter interludes. Temperatures are most likely to be close to average overall.
