Today:

Dry this morning with bright or sunny spells once early patchy freezing fog clears. Wet and windy conditions gradually spread east this afternoon and evening with gales likely to develop along English Channel coasts. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Tonight:

Rain, often heavy, will clear east with broken cloud and scattered heavy showers following, these with a chance of hail and thunder. Remaining windy with a chance of coastal gales. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Saturday:

Saturday breezy with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers, these heavy at times with a chance of hail and thunder. Windy along the south coast, breezy elsewhere. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday rain spreads northeast. Monday bright and breezy with a chance of showers then wet and windy conditions arrive overnight, gradually clearing east through Tuesday. Temperatures generally slightly above average.

A continuation of the broadly unsettled conditions is likely through this period. One area of low pressure, intiially close to northwestern areas at the start of this period, should soon clear away, but it is likely that further areas of low pressure will develop over the North Atlantic. These will likely progress eastwards towards the UK, but could become quite slow-moving in the vicinity of the UK, as they butt up against higher pressure to the east and north. As a result, the wettest conditions are more likely in western areas, but all parts could see heavy rain at times. Strong winds are also likely at times, again more likely in the west. Temperatures are expected to remain close to or above normal.

This period is likely to be changeable, with further spells of rain or showers and some strong winds at times, especially in the west and northwest. Hill snow is also a possibility, mainly in the north. However, there is a greater chance of spells of high pressure during this period, bringing more in the way of dry weather, compared to the unsettled conditions we are likely to see through the first couple of weeks of December. This will increase the chances of overnight fog and frost. Overall, near or slightly above average temperatures are most likely, though some colder spells are also possible, especially should any prolonged settled spells develop.
