Dry and sunny on Christmas Day, however, in spite of the prolonged winter sunshine it will feel cold with strong north-easterly winds throughout. This will be especially noticeable in the windier coastal areas. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Cold and mostly clear this evening, strong winds continuing but easing with time. Cloud developing overnight, probably becoming widespread by morning, however, patchy frost is possible where clearer skies persist. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Friday:

Another dry, but cloudier day for many on Boxing Day, although some areas, especially Kent and Sussex could see further prolonged sunshine. Winds not as strong compared to Christmas Day. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Bright on Saturday, otherwise cloudy and mainly dry through the outlook period. Still rather cold overall and also breezy at first, although less so than over Christmas.

High pressure is likely to dominate across the UK through to the end of the year, centred to the west or northwest over the North Atlantic. This will likely maintain relatively settled conditions at first, but with a little light rain or drizzle in places and a few showers possible along some coasts exposed to the northerly wind. Around the turn of the year, high pressure is likely to shift a little farther away from the UK, allowing a greater chance of more changeable conditions to develop. This will bring an increased risk of some rain or showers at times which, with cold air close to the UK, may bring some wintry hazards to some places. Temperatures will probably be near or slightly below average for this period overall.

Whilst confidence is low, high pressure will probably sit close to the UK initially, with periods of relatively settled weather interspersed with more changeable conditions. Temperatures will likely be near or slightly below average during this time. Later in the period a transition to more widely changeable or unsettled conditions is possible, with a corresponding shift to near or slightly above average temperatures.
