Largely dry with variable cloud and clear spells overnight, especially inland, where it will turn locally chilly. Breezier on the east coast, with further showers, these mainly affecting Kent. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Tuesday:

Another cold start, otherwise, a mostly fine day should follow, with some sunny spells. Breezier near the east coast, with some showers affecting Kent, where perhaps locally heavy. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Mainly fine, with sunny spells by day, although occasionally breezier with perhaps a few showers in the east. Some chilly nights likely, especially inland, with isolated mist and fog patches.

An uncertain period but on balance we are likely to see a change from the settled conditions of the previous days to something more unsettled through the coming weekend. This will most likely see a band of rain reaching western areas of the UK on Saturday, then gradually and erratically working its way east across most of, if not all of the country through Sunday. This could bring some heavier rain in places, most likely the west, while eastern areas are likely to hang on to drier weather for longer. Low risk of some strong winds associated with this. Into next week trending more settled once more for many, although the northwest may see further rain and strong winds at times. Temperatures close to average throughout.

Confidence is very low in the weather regimes most likely to affect the UK during this period. On balance, slow-moving weather patterns are most favoured at first, possibly with high pressure centred to the west of the UK, and low pressure to the northeast, allowing a slightly cooler and more changeable flavour to the weather to develop. Towards mid-October a more unsettled pattern may become established as areas of low pressure over the North Atlantic move close to or over the UK, with an increased chance of windy conditions at times. Temperatures will probably recover to near-average.
