Today:

It will be another cloudy day with further persistent rain, heavy at times. Rain falling as snow on the hills and perhaps to lower levels in the north later. Breezy easterly winds, strong around the coast. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight:

Rain, sleet and hill snow gradually clearing to the south through the night, becoming largely confined to Fife and Stirling by morning. Remaining cloudy throughout. Breezy around the coast. Minimum temperature 1 °C.

Thursday:

Rain, sleet and hill snow clears all parts Thursday morning to become largely dry with some bright or sunny spells developing. A few wintry showers possible, mainly in the north. Maximum temperature 4 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Largely dry with sunny spells on Friday. Dry on Saturday with sunshine in the morning before turning cloudier later. Cloudy with rain and hill snow spreading east Sunday.

Showers or longer spells of rain are expected as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, probably focussed on western hills, with some snow at times in the north, mainly on high ground. Strong winds are possible at times, especially around coasts. Temperatures will probably be near normal. Later in the period, there is a chance that drier, more settled conditions may begin to develop.

There are signals for both changeable, unsettled conditions, bringing a risk of some heavy rain, and also periods of drier, more settled weather, which may mean colder conditions. The latter, more settled pattern is looking slightly more probable at this stage.
