Today:

A cloudy start with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Cloud gradually breaking to give a bright afternoon with sunny spells. Chance of isolated heavy, perhaps thundery, showers in the west, particularly across the Pennines. Cooler, breezier, and cloudier along coasts. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Showers soon fading to leave a fine evening. Cloud will readily reform along North Sea coasts, spreading inland overnight with some patchy drizzle. Colder where clear skies persist further west. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Tuesday:

Low cloud soon clearing to sunny spells. Cloud bubbling up inland with a chance of showers. Warmer than Monday, though cooler towards coasts with an onshore breeze. Cloudy again overnight. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Fine and warm by day after early cloud retreats to the coast. Cloud spreading inland during the evenings and overnight. Sunshine becoming hazy on Friday with rain spilling eastwards overnight.

As we head into the bank holiday weekend and following week, a change in weather type is expected. More unsettled conditions are likely to develop, with weather systems moving in from the Atlantic. The change is likely to happen first in the northwest, probably later on Friday or through Saturday. This will see frontal systems bringing spells of rain, perhaps heavy at times, with a risk of strong winds in places, and these conditions will gradually spread across the UK as we go through the weekend. Drier and brighter intervals are likely between systems but with showers, some of which could be heavy / thundery. Temperatures will probably be close to average, perhaps slightly above at times, but will feel fairly cool in the often strong winds.

Changeable weather conditions are expected as we head into June. Spells of wet weather with showers or longer spells of rain are likely to be interspersed with drier, sunnier periods. Overall, it will likely be wetter in the west and drier in the east. Temperatures will probably average out around normal, although some very warm or even hot spells are still possible, as normal for the time of year.
