Today:

Generally dry with some hazy sunshine through the morning. Cloud increasing into the afternoon with a risk of rain, perhaps turning heavier and thundery into the evening. Light or gentle winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain, initially persistent with some heavier bursts, will gradually weaken overnight to leave a cloudy, damp start to Tuesday, with hill fog across the Pennines. Winds remaining light. Minimum temperature 8 °C.

Tuesday:

Gradually brightening after a cloudy, damp start, and eventually feeling warmer. However, thicker cloud and rain returning from the west through the evening. Turning breezier later. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Often rather cloudy and breezy during this period, with outbreaks of rain at times. The best of any sunshine perhaps on Thursday, and east of hills. Gradually turning warmer.

There is the possibility of some hot and humid weather across parts of south and southeast Britain at the start of this period and with it comes the chance of a few thunderstorms too. To the northwest of here, generally more changeable at first, but there is a signal for high pressure to build more widely as we move towards the latter part of June. This could bring more widely drier, settled conditions with temperatures probably remaining above average for most. There is chance however that the hot conditions, initially in the south could either linger here or, having waned for a time, return northwards accompanied by a thunderstorm risk; this all dependent on the orientation of the aforementioned high pressure.

High pressure is expected to lie close to the UK at the start of this period, bringing plenty of dry, settled weather. Temperatures will likely be above normal, with the potential for hot conditions, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms, especially in the south. Towards mid July, the influence of high pressure may weaken or shift more to the north or west of the UK, bringing an increasing chance of unsettled weather and thunderstorms more widely compared to the start of the period, but still more especially in the south. Temperatures will probably ease back closer to normal too, although some warm and humid spells remain likely at times.
