Partly cloudy to start with isolated light showers mostly around the coast and over the Pennines initially. Cloud infilling with showers becoming more widespread but remaining mostly light with many areas remaining dry. Temperatures around average. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy with bands of mostly light rain moving in from the northwest through the evening and overnight. The rain bands clear by Thursday morning. Temperatures near average. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Thursday:

Generally clear and dry to start the day but with cloud building and showers developing through the morning onwards, heaviest over the hills. Feeling cooler in fresh westerly winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Remaining unsettled to start the period with further rain and blustery winds through Friday and into Saturday. Turning drier and brighter on Sunday. Temperatures remain around average.

The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to northern and northwestern areas. As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop, whilst the bulk of the rain and possible strong winds are more likely to affect the northwest of the UK. Many areas may remain mostly settled towards the end of September, but there is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic bringing more widely unsettled conditions by the end of the month.

Changeable weather may become more frequent as we move into October, with periods of rain and stronger winds becoming more likely to spread from the west, although with drier and brighter spells also. As is not untypical as we move towards mid-October, deeper low pressure systems could bring occasional periods of very strong winds. Temperatures are likely to remain above normal overall, though brief cooler interludes are also possible.
