A largely dry night with clear spells and variable cloud, but some hill fog across the Pennines. Perhaps the odd thundery shower. Feeling a little fresher for some than the previous night, but still rather humid across southern parts. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Tuesday:

Rather cloudy, but some brighter spells, mainly early in the day. Chance of the odd spot of light rain or drizzle, perhaps becoming heavy and more persistent later. Feeling fresher. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Probably quite cloudy Wednesday, with outbreaks of showery rain. Drier and brighter on Thursday. Likely turning more unsettled by Friday, with outbreaks of rain. Feeling much fresher than of late.

Following a fine couple of days in the run up to this period, away from the far northwest where more persistent rain is expected to develop, a transition to something more unsettled countrywide looks likely. Cloud and rain associated with an Atlantic frontal system and area of low pressure is likely to sweep south and east, with rain always most persistent on western hills whilst some eastern areas in shelter could see warm and humid brighter breaks. Likely turning cooler and more showery later in the weekend and into next week, followed by a changeable pattern with further areas of cloud and rain and brighter, more settled spells in-between. Temperatures are likely to be around average overall, with an increasing chance of warmth in the south as the period progresses.

Changeable conditions are most likely through the middle part of the month, with showers or longer spells of rain, but also some drier, brighter interludes. Areas towards the northwest are more likely to see the wettest conditions, whereas those towards the southeast stand a greater chance of longer drier periods. However, there is also the chance of occasional thundery outbreaks, which could bring heavy rainfall to any part of the UK. There are hints that more widely drier conditions may develop by the latter part of the month. Overall, temperatures are forecast to be above average, with the greatest chance of very warm or hot spells in the south or southeast.
