Some brightness in the north first thing, however extensive low cloud further south spreading north. Mostly dry but some patchy little rain or drizzle possible. A slightly milder day than on Saturday for most, with generally light winds. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud tending to lower overnight with mist, patchy fog and hill fog becoming more widespread again. Winds remaining generally light. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Monday:

Another rather murky start to the day on Monday but perhaps a better chance of some brighter intervals developing into the afternoon. Mostly dry, although the odd showery outbreak possible. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Breezier through Tuesday, with cloud breaks developing ahead of overnight rain. Wednesday, early rain clearing, then brighter and blustery with scattered showers. Thursday, windy with showers, perhaps more persistent rain.

This period will continue to see the UK located at the interface between high pressure across Europe and low pressure over the North Atlantic. As such, north western areas will likely see the focus of spells of rain at times, along with stronger winds, whereas south eastern parts should see more in the way of drier interludes, though even here, some rain is expected from time to time. Temperatures should overall be a little above average for most areas, though there are likely to be times when it will be cooler too, bringing a risk of overnight frosts.

The start of this period could see unsettled conditions fairly widely across the UK, with spells of rain and strong winds affecting many areas at times, although western areas likely remain wettest. Then, whilst confidence in the details is low, there is the potential for weather patterns to become slower-moving by late March, bringing more settled and drier conditions . Overall, temperatures will probably end up near to average, though there are indications of a cooler spell near the turn of the month.
