Temperatures will rise in southern England over the next couple of days, peaking around 27-28°C in parts of the southeast on Friday.

It will be dry through the evening with increasing clear spells and light winds. Staying dry overnight and becoming quite chilly. Slight frost in sheltered glens in Argyll. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Thursday:

Dry and bright but chilly start. Sunshine turning hazy as cloud gradually spills east through the afternoon ahead of rain spreading east from late afternoon. Freshening southerly winds. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Cloud and patchy rain clearing east on Friday morning. Then bright spells and showers and Friday and Saturday, becoming quite frequent Friday night. Windy as rain spreads east on Sunday.

Remaining changeable as Atlantic frontal systems bring spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions will tend to be most frequent across western areas, with longer drier interludes most favoured in the far east and southeast, where it may be very warm at times. Into October, and high pressure to the northeast of the UK may become more influential on the weather, with some longer drier interludes focussed more across the north and northeast of the UK, whilst occasional rain may tend to be more prevalent towards the south and west. Temperatures are expected to be above average for the period as a whole.

Initially, high pressure centred to the north or northeast, with longer drier periods likely across northern UK, whilst low pressure to the southwest brings occasional rain or showers into more southern and western parts.
