Headline:

Sunny spells with the odd shower on Friday.

Today:

A few showers around in the morning but still plenty of dry and bright spells. Drier in the afternoon although the odd shower still possible with longer sunny spells developing. Mostly light northerly winds but breezy near northern coasts. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

It will be a mostly dry evening with some late sunny spells, then largely clear overnight. Cloudier with the odd shower over Caithness and Sutherland. Light winds. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Saturday:

Dry start with sunny spells. Turning cloudy through the morning with rain spreading eastwards. Rain heavier in the west with northern and eastern areas dry for much of the afternoon. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Mostly cloudy with heavy showers on Sunday. Drier on Monday with sunny spells, the odd shower possible. Strong winds at times Tuesday with rain clearing to heavy showers.

Changeable conditions look to dominate at first, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy and more focussed across northwestern areas. Drier interludes are also expected, most especially across southeastern UK. As this period progresses, high pressure is likely to begin to build from the south bringing more settled weather, although with occasional showers. Temperatures near-normal to begin, but tending to rise as the period progresses, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period, especially in the south. Winds will be stronger during the first part of the period, generally from a southwesterly direction, before becoming lighter in line with the more settled conditions.

Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is also likely to be spells of fine and dry weather. Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May across southern areas with more unsettled spells of weather likely to be focused further north. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times. Temperatures are most likely to be near or slightly above average overall, with some warm weather possible at times.
