Mainly dry today, some bright spells this afternoon.

Today:

A cloudy start with a little light and patchy rain, otherwise dry. This afternoon will be dry with some bright or sunny spells breaking through. Still warm in sheltered parts of the east, otherwise cooler than yesterday. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Mainly dry this evening but rain spreading to the Western Isles. Then rain will spread across all parts overnight, becoming drier along the west coast later. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Thursday:

Overnight rain clearing during the morning. Then bright spells and scattered showers, these turning heavy in the west later. Colder than of late. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry and bright for most of Friday but outbreaks of rain spreading northeast in the evening. Mainly dry Saturday, a few showers in the west. Breezy with showers on Sunday.

It will likely remain rather changeable during the first part of this period with showers or occasional longer spells of rain affecting many areas. Whether this takes the form of successive weather systems pushing in from the Atlantic or a more slowly evolving weather pattern remains rather unclear. There may also be some drier and brighter interludes and when winds are light, it should feel quite warm, despite temperatures most likely being close to normal for most. Later in the month more blocked weather patterns become more likely, with high pressure in the vicinity of the UK. This increases the probability of more settled weather, especially in the north but there may still be periods of rain or showers, especially in the south.

Blocked patterns with high pressure near to the UK will probably be dominant during this period with a good deal of dry weather across the UK as whole. Some unsettled interludes could develop at times, especially in the south, where rainfall amounts could be above average. Temperatures will probably be near to or slightly above normal, although some cold nights are still possible.
