A mainly dry night with variable amounts of cloud. A few sleet and snow showers across Argyll. Frost and icy patches. Fresh northwesterly winds along the coast this evening. Minimum temperature -2 °C.

All parts will have a dry and cold day with some long spells of sunshine. Light winds. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Dry and cold on Wednesday and Thursday with bright spells. Overnight frost. Milder on Friday with rain spreading east at times.

Showers or longer spells of rain, as well as occasional strong winds, are most likely at first as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, with some snow probable at times, mainly on high ground in the north. Temperatures varying from around, or a little above, average especially in the south to cold at times, mainly in the north. Although unsettled weather is likely to dominate at first, there will be some drier interludes between weather systems. These drier interludes will become increasingly likely and perhaps more prolonged through the period.

There are signals for both periods of unsettled conditions, bringing a risk of heavy rain and possibly strong winds, and periods of drier, more settled weather, which may mean slightly colder conditions.
