Rain clears east first thing, sunny spells following in afternoon.

Today:

Any lingering overnight cloud and rain will soon clear the east. Otherwise bright spells and a few showers in the morning, becoming increasingly dry and bright through the afternoon. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Dry through the evening with increasing clear spells and light winds. Staying dry and becoming chilly overnight with a rural grass frost developing in places. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Thursday:

Dry but chilly start with some brightness but cloud gradually spilling east in the morning. Rain spreads east through the afternoon and evening. Becoming windy with southerly coastal gales. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Bright spells and a few showers Friday and Saturday, becoming frequent for a time Friday night. Occasionally heavy rain spreads east on Sunday. Windy at times Friday, and Saturday night.

Remaining changeable as Atlantic frontal systems bring spells of rain, showers and occasional strong winds. The wettest and windiest conditions will tend to be most frequent across western areas, with longer drier interludes most favoured in the far east and southeast, where it may be very warm at times. Into October, and high pressure to the northeast of the UK may become more influential on the weather, with some longer drier interludes focussed more across the north and northeast of the UK, whilst occasional rain may tend to be more prevalent towards the south and west. Temperatures are expected to be above average for the period as a whole.

Initially, high pressure centred to the north or northeast, with longer drier periods likely across northern UK, whilst low pressure to the southwest brings occasional rain or showers into more southern and western parts. Towards and beyond mid-October, it may turn more widely unsettled with a greater chance of wet and windy conditions at times. Temperatures will likely be above average for the period as a whole.
