Today:

Southwest winds, occasionally fresh across western coasts and Isles, will bring a mix of scattered light showers and brighter spells across the area, with the best of the shelter expected towards Inverness and Badenoch and Strathspey. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Tonight:

Cloudy with periods of rain soon spreading from the west during the evening, with some heavier outbreaks over western hills. Southwest breezes. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Monday:

Cloudy to overcast with rain, this heavy at times across western districts. Gradually drier and brighter conditions erratically feeding from the south through the afternoon and evening. Winds mostly light. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Scattered showers between brighter spells, with a small risk of thunderstorms across eastern areas for Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds mostly light.

A changeable pattern at first with spells showers, which may be locally heavy and perhaps thundery, but there will be drier interludes. Showers will tend to ease through the early part of the period as high pressure builds. Much of England could still see warm or very warm temperatures for at least a couple of days and there is a possibility that the heat could last further into the week, especially in the south. Beyond this high pressure will likely continue to build from the Atlantic leading to plenty of fine weather with perhaps the odd heavy shower or thunderstorm. Meanwhile a rather more changeable and breezier theme will continue further to the north but it may become increasingly settled. Temperatures will probably continue to be above normal.

High pressure, and therefore largely settled conditions overall, appears more likely at first. Although dry weather is likely to dominate, periods of rain or showers and thunderstorms may develop at times. Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for further hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south. By the turn of the month, there are signals for high pressure to become less dominant with perhaps a greater chance of some rain, though there is some uncertainty in this aspect of the forecast.
