Cloudy Thursday with rain at times especially later in west.

This Evening and Tonight:

Generally cloudy this evening and overnight, with outbreaks of rain, these more persistent in the west, with some drier periods in the east, the odd clear interval. Much of the rain light but a few heavier outbreaks. Mild and breezy. Minimum temperature 13 °C.

Thursday:

Some bright spells for the Outer Hebrides at first and Caithness and Inverness more generally, otherwise cloudy with outbreaks of rain, becoming heavy and persistent in the west. Strengthening winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Bright morning Friday then becoming wet and very windy in afternoon and evening, turning stormy Friday evening and night. Frequent showers Saturday, gales slowly easing. Fewer showers, less windy, Sunday.

To start the period the UK will be in a broadly westerly pattern allowing weak frontal systems to spread in from the Atlantic. Within this we are likely to see further spells of rain or drizzle and strong winds at times, these more likely affecting northern and western areas, but all parts of the UK could see some rain from time to time. Through next week, there is a signal, albeit a weak one, for pressure to build in the vicinity of the UK, with a better chance of more areas seeing some longer drier interludes. On the whole temperatures look to be fairly close to average, though some chilly nights are to be expected at times.

The latter half of October will probably see a transition to more widely unsettled conditions once more. Whether this takes the form of successive depressions moving in from the Atlantic or a rather slower evolving weather pattern remains to be seen, but there is a greater chance of more places seeing more frequent spells of rain or showers and possibly strong winds. Temperatures probably remaining close to average overall, but with a reduced incidence of chilly nights compared to earlier in the month.
