Bright spells and showers today, drier in the east.

Today:

Variable amounts of cloud and some bright or sunny spells, best of the sunshine across the east. There will be a scattering of showers, these most frequent across the west. Fresh west or southwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

This evening will see scattered showers, mainly in the north and west. Then showers will become fewer and lighter during the early hours. Fresh westerly winds easing a little. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Friday:

After a dry morning cloud and rain will spread east for a time in the afternoon. Turning drier in the evening. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A few showers in the west on Saturday, largely dry in the east, windy. Dry and bright on Sunday. Rain for a time early on Monday then dry.

The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to northern and northwestern areas. As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop, whilst the bulk of the rain and possible strong winds are more likely to affect the northwest of the UK. Many areas may remain mostly settled towards the end of September, but there is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic bringing more widely unsettled conditions by the end of the month.

Changeable weather may become more frequent as we move into October, with periods of rain and stronger winds becoming more likely to spread from the west, although with drier and brighter spells also. As is not untypical as we move towards mid-October, deeper low pressure systems could bring occasional periods of very strong winds. Temperatures are likely to remain above normal overall, though brief cooler interludes are also possible.
