Today:

Some light scattered showers, mainly during the morning and in the west, but Inverness mainly dry and seeing the best of the afternoon brighter and temperatures. West to southwest breezes, occasionally freshening across the coasts and Islands. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Thickening cloud heralding periods of rain that reach the western coasts and Isles late evening, before following to all overnight with heavier outbreaks in west and strengthening winds. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Saturday:

Wet, windy start with rain turning heavy at times early in west. Rain progressively more patchy through morning, leading to a mainly dry afternoon with some brighter spells in east. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Sunday mainly dry with light winds and sunny spells best in east. Monday wet and occasionally windy with the east in best of shelter. Tuesday showery.

Remaining changeable, with occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic, most frequent across northern and western parts of the UK, where some strong winds will also be possible at times. However, there will also be some reasonable dry and more settled periods, especially across southern areas. Later in the month, high pressure may become more dominant in the vicinity of the UK, perhaps bringing more widely settled conditions for a time, especially away from the far north. Temperatures for the period as a whole will probably be close to average overall, but there is scope for some rather warm days at times, along with occasional relatively cool nights.

High pressure initially close to the UK, with a continuation of more settled conditions at times, may start to weaken its influence on the weather later in the month and into early October. As a result, it may become more changeable with a greater chance of rain or showers in places, and perhaps some strong winds at times too. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, with relatively cool nights possible at first tending to reduce in frequency later in the period.
