This evening will be dry with some late sunshine in places. Then mostly dry overnight, perhaps the odd light shower across Moray. Freshening westerly breeze. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Friday:

A dry day with some hazy sunshine developing by the afternoon. Brisk westerly winds across the west. Patchy rain spreading southeast in the evening. Maximum temperature 21 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Light and patchy rain spreading southeast on Saturday morning, then mainly dry, bright and breezy. Mostly dry on Sunday, perhaps a few showers. Mostly dry on Monday.

A changeable period is likely to start, with many areas seeing a mixture of bright or sunny spells and some rain at times. Northwestern areas are more likely to see the focus of rainfall, but elsewhere outbreaks of showers or thunderstorms may interrupt the dry conditions at times elsewhere. Confidence becomes lower into the start of August, but there are hints that more settled conditions could return for a time, which would mean dry conditions resuming, especially in the south. Winds will be mostly light or moderate, but occasionally fresh or strong around some coasts, mainly in the north and west. Temperatures will be broadly above normal and will probably be warm or even hot at times in the south.

Settled and dry weather will probably dominate through much of August, especially across the south. Some spells of rain are still likely at times, especially across northern and western areas. Although many areas may see mainly dry weather for the much of the period, occasional summertime thunderstorms are possible on some days. Temperatures will very likely remain above normal, with potential for further hot spells, particularly in the south.
