Headline:

Dry, bright start then heavy showers spreading east.

Today:

A largely dry and bright morning. However, some heavy showers or longer spells of rain will reach the Hebrides before spreading east across all parts in the afternoon. A breezy day with gales later near the west coast. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of heavy rain will clear away east early evening. Blustery showers will follow, some heavy in the west. Strong northwesterly winds with coastal gales. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Friday:

Sunny spells and scattered showers during the day. Rain will spread northeast soon after dark, becoming heavy and persistent with snow over high ground and strong winds. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Wet and windy with snow on high ground on Saturday. Mainly dry but cold and cloudy on Sunday. Dry with sunny spells and light winds on Monday.

High pressure looks like largely dominating the UK's weather at first, bringing plenty of dry but rather cold weather, though a showery easterly or northeasterly flow may affect the south. Overnight frosts along with morning fog patches are probable for some regions. By the middle of next week, conditions may turn a little more unsettled for a while, with a chance of some rain moving southeast. Through to the end of this period, there is an increased chance of spells of wetter and windier weather returning, these more likely in the north with southern areas having a better chance of more prolonged drier, more settled weather. Temperatures varying around average with both some colder and milder spells likely through this period.

Mainly unsettled conditions appear likely for most, bringing a greater prevalence of rain and showers to most areas but especially towards the northwest. Some of the showers could be wintry, especially on high ground in the north. However, there are also some signs that more settled conditions are possible at times, these perhaps most likely across the south late in the month. Temperatures are likely to be around average overall, with colder interludes bringing a risk of frost and fog.
