Today:

Rain in the northwest will spread southeast across all parts this morning. Drier weather with scattered showers following on behind this afternoon, turning wintry on hills. Mild at first in the east, otherwise turning colder this afternoon. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

A few showers this evening. Then the rest of the night will be mainly dry with clear periods and just the odd shower. Cold with frost. Minimum temperature -3 °C.

Thursday:

Mainly dry in the morning. Outbreaks of rain and high ground snow spreading east during the afternoon and evening. Becoming drier for a time in the northwest in the afternoon. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Rain, hill snow clearing east on Friday morning, otherwise cloudy with showers, wintry on hills. Rain and hill snow spreading northeast on Saturday. Wintry showers on Sunday. Windy at times.

It is increasingly likely that unsettled conditions will affect the UK over the Easter Holiday weekend, with the potential for strong winds and heavy rain at times. The wettest and windiest weather is more likely towards the west and north of the country. Beyond Easter, a broad northwest-southeast split is most likely, though the extent of high pressure into southern areas is unclear. That said, northern and western parts are more likely to remain rather unsettled overall, with further spells of wind and rain, and areas further southeast should see the best of the drier, clearer interludes. Temperatures probably fairly close to average overall, but occasional warmer spells are possible in the south and east.

The broad northwest-southeast split is likely to continue to begin this period. However, it is probable that more blocked weather patterns will become increasingly dominant through the middle of the month. This is likely to mean more settled and drier conditions overall. There may however, still be some more unsettled interludes at times, especially in the south and southwest. Later in April, the probability of more changeable and unsettled weather increases, which is likely to be more widespread than the middle of the month. Temperatures will probably be around or a little above normal, but some warmer days are likely where light winds and sunshine combine.
