Headline:

Mainly fine, but becoming cloudier from the east on Friday.

This Evening and Tonight:

Mainly fine, with a chance of patchy local grass frost and a few fog patches inland in the west. Cloudier and breezier with the odd light shower in the southeast. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Friday:

Chilly but brightest in the west first thing, otherwise mainly fine, but turning cloudier from the east through the morning, perhaps with the odd light shower. Temperatures slightly below average. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

A band of rain, heavy in places, will move erratically eastwards over the weekend, with winds increasing for a time. Mainly fine either side of this, with temperatures around average.

Relatively settled conditions are likely for most parts to start the week. There will however be cloudier conditions in the northwest with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at times. Through the week while showers or perhaps longer spells of rain are possible for all areas at times, the wettest weather is likely to continue be focused on the northwest of the country. Any spells of windier weather are more likely in the northwest too. Elsewhere, there is a better chance of more prolonged fine and dry weather along with morning mist and fog patches in places. Later in the period the chance of deeper areas of low pressure bringing wet and windy conditions increases but this is highly uncertain. Temperatures generally around average.

On balance, slow-moving weather patterns are most favoured at first, possibly with high pressure centred near to the UK, and low pressure to the north. Depending on the position of the high pressure this may allow a slightly cooler and more changeable regime to develop, especially in the northwest. Towards mid-October a more unsettled pattern may become established as the high moves south and eastwards. This would allow areas of low pressure from the North Atlantic move across the UK, with an increased chance of wet and windy conditions at times. Temperatures will probably remaining near-average.
