A sunny but cold start to the day. Cloud slowly increasing from the northwest ahead of a band of scattered showers which will move across the region later this afternoon. Feeling slightly warmer, but with brisk northwesterly winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Any showers soon clearing this evening to leave clear skies for a while overnight. However, cloud slowly building again, with blustery showers arriving around dawn. Less cold with brisk winds. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Wednesday:

A day of sunshine and scattered blustery showers. The showers turning heavy at times with the odd rumble of thunder and hail. Feeling cool, especially in the wind. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Staying on the cool side with a continuation of sunny spells and scattered showers through Thursday and Friday. Drier with lighter winds on Saturday. Overnight frosts possible.

Changeable and at times rather unsettled conditions look to dominate through the middle part of May, with low pressure often close by. This means periods of rain or showers, some of which could be heavy, for many places, though some drier interludes are also expected. Initially temperatures likely cooler than average, but tending to recover, perhaps becoming rather warm by the end of the period as it tends to become more settled, especially in the south.

Patterns which bring more settled weather are more likely to dominate towards the end of May. Whilst further rain and showers are possible at times, there is likely to be longer spells of fine and dry weather. Temperatures are most likely to recover close to average, perhaps becoming warm at times. Into June, more mixed conditions are likely with spells of rain and showers, but also some drier weather at times.
