Headline:

Cold over the next few days with widespread frost.

Today:

Most of the region dry with plenty of weak winter sunshine. However, feeling bitterly cold, with temperatures struggling to rise above freezing for many. Risk of a few snow showers on the Norfolk coast. Maximum temperature 1 °C.

Tonight:

Most places dry overnight with plenty of clear spells, but a few isolated light snow showers can't be ruled out. Bitterly cold with a widespread frost and icy patches. Minimum temperature -5 °C.

Monday:

Another very cold day with variable cloud and sunny spells. Isolated wintry showers may occur at times, leading to icy patches, mainly across Norfolk but occasionally spreading further south. Maximum temperature 1 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Bright but cold much of Tuesday, but becoming cloudy later with rain and perhaps some snow overnight. Sunny spells developing Wednesday before further rain and snow overnight and into Thursday.

Rather changeable, as Atlantic frontal systems attempt to cross the UK from the west to bring occasional outbreaks of rain, but preceded by snow in some areas, more especially central, northern and eastern parts of the UK, perhaps giving some significant snow accumulations in places, particularly on northern hills. These low pressure systems, whilst could bring some periods of strong winds, will be interspersed with quieter, drier interludes under transient ridges of high pressure with the potential for frost, and wintry showers along coasts exposed to northerly winds. A continuation of this general pattern is favoured into the following week, although perhaps with temperatures trending closer to average such that the frequency of wintry hazards, especially in the south, may reduce slightly.

The outlook through the second half of January is very uncertain, with no strong indication for any particular weather pattern to dominate. As such, conditions are most likely to be changeable. Spells of wet, windy and mild weather are possible at times, along with colder, drier interludes with overnight frost and fog. Snow and ice remain possible, especially in central and northern parts of the UK, but the chance of these is lower than earlier in the month.
