Early mist patches soon clearing. Mostly cloudy, but perhaps the odd brighter interval developing later in the east. Staying dry for most, although the odd spot of drizzle cannot be completely ruled out. Mild. Maximum temperature 10 °C.

Tonight:

Outbreaks of rain and drizzle likely spreading further east overnight, heavy at times. Some drier periods still likely but staying cloudy. Winds also strengthening a little. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Tuesday:

The odd spot of rain or drizzle remains possible, mainly at first or late afternoon. Otherwise dry with variable cloud and some sunny spells, but also a strengthening breeze. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:

Rather windy, especially over hills, with a mixture of variable cloud and outbreaks of rain, perhaps turning persistent late Wednesday. Daytime temperatures near normal for January, but staying milder overnight.

The UK will likely continue to sit in the battleground between Atlantic weather systems attempting to push in from the west, but tending to stall in the vicinity over the UK as they encounter high pressure to the north and northeast. As such, further spells of rain or showers are likely at times, which may be heavy and persistent, especially in the south and west, with the best of any drier interludes in the far north and northwest. Whilst mild conditions will encroach into the south and west at times, it is likely to turn somewhat colder through this period, bringing the risk of some snow, more especially on hills in Scotland and northern England.

Initially, slowly evolving weather patterns are most likely in the vicinity of the UK, with low pressure typically to the west or southwest and high pressure to the northeast. This configuration brings an increased chance of cold conditions affecting the UK, and the associated risk of wintry hazards at times. Deeper into February, whilst confidence is naturally low, there may be a transition to more widely unsettled conditions and a corresponding recovery in temperature back closer to average.
