After a cold and frosty start, the rest of Wednesday will be dry, sunny and warm with light winds. High cloud may turn the sunshine hazy at times. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Warm, dry and sunny on Thursday. Increasingly cloudy through Friday, showery rain possible in the afternoon. Cloudy on Saturday with a chance of rain and a feeling cooler.

The first weekend of this period is likely to be more unsettled than it has been of late. Wetter weather will probably continue to spread to all areas from the west or southwest, at least for a time, with some heavy rain possible, and this could be accompanied by strong winds at times. Into the following week, unsettled conditions will probably continue across many parts of the UK, though things could quieten down around midweek, at least temporarily. Temperatures are likely to be widely above average at the start of this period, and it will feel warm in any sunshine, before probably falling back and then fluctuating around average for the remainder rest of March.

Confidence is lower than normal, but blocked or slow-moving weather patterns are most probable for the first half of April. This can lead to slow-moving areas of low and high pressure and, depending on their location, can result in extended periods of either dry conditions or, perhaps more likely, wetter episodes in the form of rain or showers.
