Early rain clearing the sunny spells and showers.

Today:

Early cloud and rain will clear to the southeast to leave a mostly dry day with plenty of sunny spells then following. The odd shower is possible towards northern coasts, but most will remain dry. Rather breezy for all. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Tonight:

Isolated showers continuing overnight towards the north coast. Otherwise a dry night with clear spells, remaining rather breezy despite winds easing. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Friday:

A dry and bright start, but turning cloudier into the afternoon with patchy outbreaks of, mainly light, rain spreading east. Remaining rather breezy. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Mostly cloudy on Saturday and Sunday with patchy rain and stronger winds. Brighter to the east of high ground. Drier, brighter and a little warmer on Monday with lighter winds.

The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to northern and northwestern areas. As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop, whilst the bulk of the rain and possible strong winds are more likely to affect the northwest of the UK. Many areas may remain mostly settled towards the end of September, but there is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic bringing more widely unsettled conditions by the end of the month.

Changeable weather may become more frequent as we move into October, with periods of rain and stronger winds becoming more likely to spread from the west, although with drier and brighter spells also. As is not untypical as we move towards mid-October, deeper low pressure systems could bring occasional periods of very strong winds. Temperatures are likely to remain above normal overall, though brief cooler interludes are also possible.
