It will be a chilly start with a few fog patches soon clearing. Otherwise it will be dry with bright or sunny spells by day. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Clouding over through the evening with outbreaks of rain and freshening south to southeast winds. Drier overnight as winds ease but remaining dull and overcast. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Monday:

It will be cloudy throughout the day with the odd spot of light drizzle at times. Freshening winds developing later as well as some heavier outbreaks of rain. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Overnight rain soon clearing Tuesday then sunshine and showers, windy at times. Windy on Wednesday with bright spells, variable cloud. Occasionally heavy rain arriving overnight, clearing southeast later Thursday.

The weather is expected to remain changeable. Low pressure systems will continue to run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK, bringing occasional bands of rain and strong winds, interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions. Rain will be most prevalent across hills in the west and northwest, where above average rainfall is likely through this period. Longer drier interludes are more favoured in southern and eastern parts, but even here there will probably be more rain over the period compared to recent weeks. Whilst brief cooler interludes and early morning frosts are possible, temperatures are likely to be a little above normal in many areas for the period as a whole, and potentially quite mild at times during wetter and windier spells.

The rest of October and early November will probably maintain a changeable pattern overall, with areas of low pressure often passing close to, if not across, the UK from the North Atlantic. Showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, with the wettest and windiest weather typically in the west and northwest, with drier conditions favoured in southern and eastern parts. A trend to more widely unsettled conditions is possible into November. Whilst some occasional colder interludes will be possible at times, temperatures are likely to be near or a little above average for the period as a whole.
