Today:

Some early sunshine in east but cloudier conditions with showers in northwest spreading southeast, the showers perhaps merging into a longer spell of rain around midday. Becoming brighter this afternoon with fewer showers. Occasionally strong southwesterly winds easing. Maximum temperature 11 °C.

Tonight:

Any remaining showers soon dying out this evening to leave a dry night with long clear spells developing. With mainly light winds a fairly widespread frost is expected to develop. Minimum temperature -1 °C.

Thursday:

Bright start but cloud increasing with occasionally heavy rain spreading northeast through the morning, rain continuing through the afternoon and evening. Strengthening southeasterly winds with coastal gales, perhaps severe, later. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Remaining unsettled with showers or longer spells of occasionally heavy rain through Friday and the weekend. Windy at times, with coastal gales on Friday morning and later Sunday.

The changeable and at times unsettled weather is likely to continue through early November, with low pressure dominating the UK. This means further showers or longer spells of rain at times. All parts could see some heavy rain, but it is likely that western areas will be wettest. Strong winds are likely at times, with gales or severe gales a possibility, especially in the west. Equally there should also be some, at least brief, drier or clearer interludes, these more prevalent further east, but perhaps becoming a little more widespread and long-lasting by the end of the period. With winds predominantly blowing from a westerly or southwesterly quadrant, above average temperatures are most likely, with a reduced incidence of overnight frost and fog, compared to normal, especially at first.

A gradual transition from an unsettled westerly type to something less unsettled is anticipated through the middle part of the month. With time, greater incidences of high pressure look set to affect the UK, bringing more in the way of dry weather, but also increasing the chances of overnight fog and frost. Later in the month any low pressure systems will likely be steered to the northwest of the UK. As such the majority of any wet and windy weather is more likely to affect areas further to the north. Overall, temperatures look to pan out near to a little above average.
