Today:

A dry day with bright or sunny spells and a light wind for most. The Western Isles will however be cloudy with afternoon rain and a fresh to strong southerly wind. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Tonight:

Dry with clear spells over the mainland at first. Cloud and patchy rain over the Western Isles will spread east overnight before clearing towards the morning. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Monday:

Most places stay dry and cloudy with bright or sunny spells. There remains a chance of the odd shower over the Western Isles. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Cloudy with rain or showers Tuesday through to Thursday, these frequent at times. Cloudy but drier for a time from Thursday morning.

A transition to a rather more changeable and at times unsettled weather pattern is likely to occur during the first few days of this period. Outbreaks of rain and freshening winds will probably make inroads from the southwest during Thursday ahead of conditions more widely becoming wetter and windier by the weekend. A return to periods of rain followed by showers, often accompanied by strong winds looks likely for the rest of the month, with the potential for weather warnings or even a named storm at some point before the month is out. Temperatures at least should recover in most places, ending up near average or even a little above, though admittedly not feeling like it at times.

The start of February is likely to continue on an unsettled and relatively mild theme, with periods of rain, showers and strong winds, alternating in most parts with short-lived brighter and cooler interludes. Pressure may build across southern areas towards mid-month, which would result in longer drier and more-settled spells here, albeit with an increased chance of overnight fog and frost.
