This Evening and Tonight:

Largely clear skies this evening, with any showers in the far west fading away. Winds easing overnight, though cloud building a little towards dawn on Thursday. Temperatures falling away under clear spells with patchy grass frost possible in rural areas. Minimum temperature 5 °C.

Thursday:

A settled start to Thursday but increasingly grey as cloud builds. Outbreaks of rain possible in the afternoon with winds strengthening and coastal gales for Cornwall by evening. Maximum temperature 15 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

A largely unsettled end to the week with ongoing blustery winds. Heavy showers on Friday may bring hail and squally gusts. A little drier on Sunday with more sunny spells.

The changeable and at times unsettled weather is likely to continue through early November, with low pressure dominating the UK. This means further showers or longer spells of rain at times. All parts could see some heavy rain, but it is likely that western areas will be wettest. Strong winds are likely at times, with gales or severe gales a possibility, especially in the west. Equally there should also be some, at least brief, drier or clearer interludes, these more prevalent further east, but perhaps becoming a little more widespread and long-lasting by the end of the period. With winds predominantly blowing from a westerly or southwesterly quadrant, above average temperatures are most likely, with a reduced incidence of overnight frost and fog, compared to normal, especially at first.

A gradual transition from an unsettled westerly type to something less unsettled is anticipated through the middle part of the month. With time, greater incidences of high pressure look set to affect the UK, bringing more in the way of dry weather, but also increasing the chances of overnight fog and frost. Later in the month any low pressure systems will likely be steered to the northwest of the UK. As such the majority of any wet and windy weather is more likely to affect areas further to the north. Overall, temperatures look to pan out near to a little above average.
