Today:

A cloudy but mostly dry start, though there could be some spots of light rain in places. Winds will gradually strengthen through the day, turning rather blustery by the afternoon with outbreaks of rain pushing in from the north later. Maximum temperature 13 °C.

Tonight:

Heavy rain will continue to push in from the north this evening alongside strong and blustery winds. Rain clearing to showers overnight. Feeling cold. Minimum temperature 3 °C.

Wednesday:

Brighter on Wednesday with sunshine and blustery showers. These heavy at times, with some hail, thunder and possibly bringing some snow over the Moors. Feeling cold in brisk northerly winds. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Fewer showers on Thursday though still cold. Spells of rain on Friday before some sunny spells on Saturday with temperatures returning closer to average.

A broadly changeable pattern will continue, at least through the first part of this period, as further frontal systems move across the UK, bringing rain and stronger winds at times. Weather fronts are likely to be more active across northern areas, thus the wettest and windiest conditions are more likely here. As they come south, often running in to a ridge of higher pressure extending from the southwest, frontal systems will often be weaker and rainfall amounts smaller. In this setup, temperatures will probably pan out close to average overall, with some overnight frost where skies are clear and winds light.

High pressure may be more dominant at the start of this period, the centre of which transferring from somewhere west or southwest of the UK to somewhere north of the UK. As such, plenty of dry weather seems most likely, but with changes in wind direction leading to some quite marked differences in cloud amounts and temperature from day to day. Moving further into April, there is a chance that high pressure will become less dominant and thus there is a greater chance of more places seeing some rain and possible stronger winds from time to time. Overall, temperatures panning out somewhere near to average.
