A mostly cloudy start today, becoming increasingly murky and mild as patchy rain arrives in the southwest during the afternoon. Most eastern areas will remain dry. Becoming breezy, with strong winds along coasts and hills later. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

A murky night with some heavy outbreaks of rain, and fog for hills and along exposed coasts. Breezy, with strong winds along southern coasts. Feeling much milder than Saturday night. Minimum temperature 10 °C.

Sunday:

Murky with areas of fog, and patchy rain which may be heavy in the morning. Becoming breezy, with some strong winds for coasts and hills later, but feeling very mild. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Rain and strong winds will pass on Tuesday morning to become brighter and cooler. Breezy during Wednesday but dry and bright, then increasingly cloudy, showery and windy through Thursday.

The weather is expected to remain changeable. Low pressure systems will continue to run across the North Atlantic, often to the north and northwest of the UK, bringing occasional bands of rain and strong winds, interspersed with brighter and more showery conditions. Rain will be most prevalent across hills in the west and northwest, where above average rainfall is likely through this period. Longer drier interludes are more favoured in southern and eastern parts, but even here there will probably be more rain over the period compared to recent weeks. Whilst brief cooler interludes and early morning frosts are possible, temperatures are likely to be a little above normal in many areas for the period as a whole, and potentially quite mild at times during wetter and windier spells.

The rest of October and early November will probably maintain a changeable pattern overall, with areas of low pressure often passing close to, if not across, the UK from the North Atlantic. Showers or longer spells of rain are likely at times, with the wettest and windiest weather typically in the west and northwest, with drier conditions favoured in southern and eastern parts. A trend to more widely unsettled conditions is possible into November. Whilst some occasional colder interludes will be possible at times, temperatures are likely to be near or a little above average for the period as a whole.
