Today:

Another fine day with any fog clearing quickly through the morning to leave largely sunny skies and some scattered cloud. Lighter winds and feeling a little warmer in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Tonight:

Staying dry through the evening and overnight with mostly clear skies, allowing some mist and fog to reform in places. Another chilly night with a patchy rural grass frost. Minimum temperature 4 °C.

Wednesday:

Another dry and bright start with mist and fog quickly clearing through the morning. Staying dry with sunny intervals, and perhaps a little warmer than Tuesday. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:

Settled through much of this week with temperatures slowly on the rise. A little cloudier each day, and an increasing chance of showers. Rain arriving in the west later Friday.

An uncertain period but on balance we are likely to see a change from the settled conditions of the previous days to something more unsettled through the coming weekend. This will most likely see a band of rain reaching western areas of the UK on Saturday, then gradually and erratically working its way east across most of, if not all of the country through Sunday. This could bring some heavier rain in places, most likely the west, while eastern areas are likely to hang on to drier weather for longer. Low risk of some strong winds associated with this. Into next week trending more settled once more for many, although the northwest may see further rain and strong winds at times. Temperatures close to average throughout.

Confidence is very low in the weather regimes most likely to affect the UK during this period. On balance, slow-moving weather patterns are most favoured at first, possibly with high pressure centred to the west of the UK, and low pressure to the northeast, allowing a slightly cooler and more changeable flavour to the weather to develop. Towards mid-October a more unsettled pattern may become established as areas of low pressure over the North Atlantic move close to or over the UK, with an increased chance of windy conditions at times. Temperatures will probably recover to near-average.
