An early frost, then bright in the northeast during the morning. Cloud and patchy rain slowly spreading in from the west and southwest during the day, perhaps with some hill snow and freezing rain. Chilly with brisk winds, easing later. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Tonight:

Unsettled through this evening and overnight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, turning wintry at times on the hills. Often breezy and staying frost free given the blanket of cloud. Minimum temperature 2 °C.

Saturday:

Remaining unsettled on Saturday with rain at times, possibly giving a little more snow or some freezing rain over the mountains. Feeling chilly for most, and breezy. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Further spells of rain, and perhaps some hill snow likely on Sunday. Turning drier and brighter on Monday and Tuesday, but still feeling chilly, especially in the breeze.

Turning unsettled at the start of this period with Atlantic frontal systems spreading across the UK from the west. These will bring periods of rain to much of the UK, although the heaviest rainfall will probably be in western areas. Some eastern areas could end up largely dry. Strong winds are also likely at times, especially along coasts. Through the second half of this period, toward the end of February, periods of unsettled weather are expected at times, with Atlantic weather systems continuing to move eastwards across the UK - these could bring heavy rain and strong winds at times. Some drier, brighter periods with showers are likely between systems. Temperatures will most likely be above average.

There is still a very small chance of colder conditions lingering for a time at the start of this period, but it is much more likely that a milder and unsettled theme will dominate, with weather systems moving close to or across the UK. This will mean bands of rain and perhaps periods of strong winds spreading in from the west, interspersed with some drier and brighter interludes, but likely bringing above average rainfall amounts overall, especially towards the west. Temperatures are most likely to become close to or a little above average by early March.
