Plenty of evening sunshine to come followed by mostly clear and dry night, with perhaps an isolated shower in the northern half of the country. Feeling cool for many, with some very light winds. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

Friday:

A dry and bright morning to start Friday with some patchy cloud in the north. Sunshine perhaps turning hazy into the afternoon, but feeling warm in the sunny spells. Maximum temperature 22 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday and much of Sunday look dry with some warm spells of sunshine, in gentle winds. A chance of some much needed rain developing later on Sunday, and into Monday.

A generally rather changeable period looks likely, with many places likely to see some much needed rain or showers at times but also some more sunshine. Initially, some heavy rain looks likely across the northeast, with some showers elsewhere. After a drier, brighter few days, further unsettled conditions may develop for a while, these perhaps more likely towards more southern parts of the UK. Thereafter, further spells of dry, warm, sunny weather and cooler, wetter and breezier weather look likely as we head towards mid-August. Temperatures will likely be a little above average overall, and there is the potential for some very warm or hot spells, especially in the south, although perhaps not the heat we have seen in recent weeks.

Dry and settled conditions look likely to dominate much of this period with high pressure patterns tending to affect the UK. This may be interrupted at times by Atlantic frontal systems, especially in the north, or thunderstorms in the south. However, overall, rainfall amounts will likely be below normal. Temperatures will probably be above normal and some spells of hot weather and heatwaves are possible, especially in the south.
